Achille Castiglioni was born in Milan in 1918. He studied architecture at the Politecnico di Milano and in 1944 he settled down with his brothers Livio and Piero Giacomo in a design studio. With them he researched Architecture, Design and Urbanism, looking for new forms, techniques and materials with the aim of achieving what he called an "integral design".
In 1956 he founded the Associazione per il Disegno Industriale, the ADI, Industrial Design Association. Castiglioni was a design classic that exhibited designs at each Milan Triennial since the year 47 and was awarded seven Compás de Oro awards.
